German Schlager Festival 1960

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The second German Schlager Festival took place on September 21, 1960 in the Rhein-Main-Halle in Wiesbaden . As in the previous year, the organizer was Radio Luxemburg , which was popular with Schlager fans at the time . The Südwestfunk (SWF) had tried in vain to bring the German Schlager Festival Baden-Baden to life in 1960. The originally intended event was canceled at short notice and so the Wiesbaden Festival, apart from the preliminary decision on the Grand Prix Eurovision on February 6, 1960, remained the only major festival of its kind in Germany.

At the start were 20 titles, which were presented by Caterina Valente , Fred Bertelmann , Peter Kraus and the Perrys . The performers were accompanied by the RIAS dance orchestra under the direction of Werner Müller . The finalists had previously been determined from 114 titles on the occasion of a pre-selection tour through 19 German cities. The preselection events were moderated by Vico Torriani . At these events, the titles were presented by Margit Calva, Hannelore Cremer , Herbert Garden, Ferry Graf , Erik Herschmann ( Erik Silvester ), Carina Korten and the Perrys.

In contrast to the previous year, the 1960 festival had a more positive response. Some of the titles in the competition were also in the charts for several weeks.
