Erik Silvester , bourgeois Erik Herschmann (born September 24, 1942 in Briesen ( district of Bilin ), Sudetenland , today the Czech Republic ; † November 23, 2008 in Cologne ) was a German pop singer , composer , lyricist and producer.

education

Erik Silvester completed a three-year acting training after school, which he completed with an exam, and then studied harmony and composition. He played guitar , bass , piano , drums and saxophone .

Career

His first single Karina-Lu was released in 1960; from then on he composed some of his songs himself. In September 1967 his single Dann fell the door to number 26 in the German charts. His greatest successes were I see the girls like to pass (June 1969, number 16), Zucker im Kaffee (composed by Hans Blum ; October 1969, number 14) and When the drum calls, which was number 11 in the German charts in February 1976 . He had his greatest hit parade with the trumpet piece Midnight Munich, which he composed and reached number 1 in the Australian charts. In total, his work has been sold more than 25 million times, according to his website.

In the 1970s he was also a guest in various music programs on television, including several times in the ZDF hit parade . Then it became calmer around him. In the 1990s he had recorded a few more titles, but could no longer build on his old successes.

Private life and death

Erik Silvester was married to the racing driver's widow Rolf Stommelen from 1985 .

He died in November 2008 at the age of 66 after a short illness in Cologne-Rodenkirchen of heart failure.
