German Schlager Competition 1973

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The fourth German Schlager Competition took place on September 19, 1973 in TV studio A of the SFB in Berlin .

The “Arbeitsgemeinschaft Schlagerwettbewerb” was set up as the successor organization to the “Association for the Promotion of German Dance and Entertainment Music” to carry out the competition. V. “founded. Chairman was GEMA -Generaldirektor Erich Schulze selected.

In March 1973 the German record companies were asked to propose one or more artists from their company for the competition. From the 44 nominations that came together, a jury selected twelve performers for whom composers and lyricists could submit titles by the end of April 1973.

From these, two songs per performer were selected, which were presented to the listeners of the eleven ARD radio stations as well as Deutsche Welle and Deutschlandfunk in August 1973 . By means of a representative survey of the listeners carried out by Infratest and the assessment by an expert jury, the better title of the individual performers was then selected for the competition from the offer.

The final round was moderated by Helga Guitton . For the first time as part of such a competition, the contributions were presented in full playback in order (according to the official explanation) to reproduce the recordings true to the original.

The decision on the winner was made by a jury made up of six music-interested laypeople and six representatives from various broadcasters.

Trivia

Although almost all participating interpreters were currently successful at the time of the competition, hardly any of them achieved commercial success with their contribution. The only things to be emphasized in this regard are Séverine , Anne-Karin , Graham Bonney , Lena Valaitis and Costa Cordalis . The song by the blonde French woman Séverine Now the party really starts was presented again on October 20, 1973 in the 51st ZDF hit parade . In the period that followed, it became a popular hit that is inseparable from her name to this day. In addition, it has become and has remained a real classic of the genre. Also on October 20, 1973, Graham Bonney found himself with Rosemary and Companie among the new releases on the 51st ZDF hit parade, only to make another appearance on November 17, 1973 in fourth place in the 52nd edition. In this 52nd ZDF hit parade, Anne-Karin also presented her song Dreh dich weiter Ballerina again, which in the following years also developed into a respectable radio hit. Lena Valaitis was also represented on the evening of November 17, 1973 among the new releases in the 52nd edition. You can't forbid me to love you with her title , although she didn't make it to the finals of the Schlager competition, but was all the more successful with the German pop audience at the time. Only Costa Cordalis was able to achieve a real hit with Carolina komm in the period following the German Schlager Competition in 1973. After its re-launch on November 17, 1973 in the 52nd ZDF hit parade, the title came first in the two subsequent monthly issues 53 and 54 of December 15, 1973 and January 26, 1974, respectively. This made Carolina komm the absolute leader of the German hit in a row during this period. All other entries of the German Schlagerwettbewerb 1973, including the more chanson-like and musically and lyrically somewhat more demanding winner's title, were largely denied a noteworthy major hit and audience success.
