Teddy Parker , born in Claus Herwig (born April 17, 1938 in Brno , Czechoslovakia ), is a German pop and folk music singer and radio host .

Life

Teddy Parker first grew up in Brno, but came to Bamberg with his parents after the Second World War and the expulsion of the Germans from Czechoslovakia . In 1955 he moved to Munich . During school he took singing lessons. After graduating from high school , he studied law . In 1957 he won a youth competition and got a record deal with the Tempo label . As an impersonator, he sang about records such as Frank Sinatra , Peter Alexander and Peter Kraus , using several pseudonyms (Ralph Herwig, Bernd Anderson, Bobby Stern, Jimmy Fields, Johnny).

After the state examination, he got a second record deal. So in 1960 the first single was created under his real name Claus Herwig. This opened his own singing career for him. In the same year he stood in front of the film camera for the first time in the feature film Schlagerparade 1960 . This was followed by the films I always want to be yours (1960) and that's what all girls dream of (1961).

In 1961 he sang with Leonie Brückner at the German Schlager Festival in Wiesbaden the titles Musikanten der Liebe and Evenings in Madrid . Then he recorded tracks with various record companies until he finally released his first single Muli Mexicano on Telefunken under his now known name Teddy Parker in 1962 . Then came the first big success. In 1963, the title Nachtexpress nach St. Tropez was in the charts for several weeks. This was followed by other titles and, in 1963, another film appearance in the music film ... because music and love in Tyrol , directed by Werner Jacobs .

Then it got a little quieter for Parker as a singer. At the beginning of the 1970s he became an editor at Bayerischer Rundfunk and a disc jockey in the program Club 16 at 17 . Then he managed to hit two more hits with the titles Wie eine Laden Dynamit and You, I've lost my heart , which earned him appearances on the ZDF hit parade in 1971 . In 1972 he took part in the German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest with Ich betze auf dich , in which he reached the penultimate place.

Then Teddy Parker began to compose himself. With titles like Wie ein Boomerang and Fang again auf mit mir , the singer called himself back to memories for a short time. Parker continued to work as an editor and presenter.

In the mid-1980s he finally began to sing folk songs and had success again. Titles such as Every day is a gift , A door is always open or A mother's heart should never cry are still among the permanent wishes of popular broadcasts today. Since then he has also been a regular guest on various television programs.
