The German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 1972 took place under the title Ein Lied für Edinburgh .

format

This year, artists were proposed by the record companies. Each interpreter competed with three titles. An ARD commission selected twelve performers, each with one title, from these proposals, who competed against each other. This year the contributions were sung live by the performers. Moderators Karin Tietze-Ludwig and Renate Bauer hosted the show . A jury of ten people voted on the title in the preliminary round. Half of these were music experts and five were music-interested laypeople aged under 25. The selection was made in two rounds. In the first round, each jury member could award between one and five points for each song. The three leading titles from the first round are qualified for the second round. Here each jury member can only give one vote to one of the remaining titles. The jury included:

Elfriede Hilliges Preschooler for children's nurses from Berlin, guitar player with an interest in hits, country and western music

This year the following interpreters were allowed to take part in the preliminary round:

Cindy & Bert , the singing couple from Völklingen, started their professional career after their first chart successes.

Edina Pop had already performed as a singer and actress in her Hungarian homeland and was married to the actor Günther Stoll . She was supposed to take part in the preliminary round in 1970, but had to cancel for health reasons and was replaced by Mary Roos in the preliminary round . In 1979 she was a member of Genghis Khan and took part in the ESC in Jerusalem.

Teddy Parker had already recorded a few singles and was in the charts for several weeks with the night express to St. Tropez .

Olivia Molina had previously their greatest success with a Beatles - cover version of Let It Be - but with the German title but how .

Marion Maerz had her greatest success as early as 1965 with the title He is back there, composed by Christian Bruhn , and after a career kink in 1970 she tried to restart her career.

Mary Roos already competed in the 1970 Ein Lied für Amsterdam elimination (for Edina Pop) and reached second place. Then she got a personality show on television.

Peter Horton , a singer, entertainer and guitarist.

Su Kramer played the role of Sheila in the German performance of the musical Hair . Her debut album Frei sein was named the best production of 1971 by 50 music journalists.

Inga & Wolf have already appeared on television talent programs, including the ZDF turntable .

Sven Jenssen sang a duet with Peter Alexander in 1963 and had several other publications and appearances on television, including on the ZDF hit parade .

Adrian Wolf came to hit music in the late 1960s. TV viewers could u. a. Experience in the turntable on ZDF , the current NDR showroom and in music from Studio B.

Trivia

After the first round, Cindy & Bert were still in the lead, but, like Su Kramer, could only win over three jurors in the decisive second round. Surprisingly, Mary Roos won.

Cindy & Bert reached number 36 in the single charts with Geh ' .

Inga & Wolf came away empty-handed in the second round. Nevertheless, the title Gute Nacht, Freunde, composed by Reinhard Mey under the pseudonym Alfons Yondraschek, reached number 22 in the single charts, got a gold record and became an evergreen.
