Edina Pop (real name: Marika Késmárky , born February 4, 1941 in Budapest ) is a German pop singer of Hungarian descent.

life and career

Edina Pop graduated from high school in Budapest and performed there in exclusive hotels, concerts and on television. In 1969 she came to Germany and soon started her western singing career. In 1972 she took part in the German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest with the song I want to give you my love and reached a shared seventh place. She was supposed to compete in 1970 with the title Every Kiss , but could not sing for health reasons and was therefore replaced by Mary Roos . In the mid- 1970s , things calmed down a little.

In February 1971 Edina Pop married the actor Günther Stoll . She was married to him until he died in 1977.

In 1979 Ralph Siegel hired her for his group Dschinghis Khan , which represented Germany at the 1979 Eurovision Song Contest .

After the group broke up, she resumed her solo career, but could no longer build on previous successes. During her appearances she sings her own hits and those by Genghis Khan. Edina Pop also interprets jazz and gospel songs today .
