Wolfgang Heichel (born November 4, 1950 in Meißen ) is a German singer. He became known through his membership in the pop group Dschinghis Khan .

Life

After graduating from high school, he studied art at the art academy in Kassel from 1970 to 1974. From 1976 he studied dentistry at the LMU Munich.

In 1976 he married the Dutch singer Henriette Strobel . In 1979, hit producer Ralph Siegel hired the Heichel couple for his group Dschinghis Khan. In May 1979, Dschinghis Khan took part in the Eurovision Song Contest for Germany in Jerusalem and took fourth place with the song Dschinghis Khan . Dschinghis Khan remained successful in the following years and received numerous gold records in Germany and abroad. After the band broke up in 1986, he took part in the German preliminary decision for the 1986 Eurovision Song Contest as a member of the group “That's Life” , but came last with the song Telefon . In the same year his marriage to Henriette Heichel ended.

From 1986 he worked behind the scenes as a composer, producer and publisher. 2001–2003 he studied psychology at the University of North Carolina, USA.

In December 2005 he gave a Dschinghis Khan Reunion concert with Steve Bender , Edina Pop and Henriette Strobel in the Olympiahalle in Moscow in front of 30,000 spectators. Since then, a number of other appearances have followed.

honors and awards

On July 16, 2006, on the occasion of the 800th anniversary of Mongolia, Heichel was accepted as a member of the World Academy of Chingges Khan in a solemn ceremony in the capital Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia).

On January 15, 2018, Heichel was appointed Cultural Ambassador of Mongolia by the Foreign Minister of Mongolia, D. Tsogtbaatar. In a solemn act he was presented with the certificate in the Mongolian Embassy in Berlin.

On June 18, 2018, Heichel received the highest honor in Mongolia, the Medal of Friendship, from President Kh.Battulga in Ulaanbaatar.

On June 22, 2018, Heichel was made an honorary citizen of Mongolia's Khentii region, the region where the legendary Genghis Khan was born.
