The German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 1999 in Jerusalem ( Israel ) took place on February 21, 1999 under the title Countdown Grand Prix 1999 in the Bremen city hall. The North German Broadcasting organized the event, Axel Bulthaupt and Sandra Studer moderated.

Disqualification of the winning title
A few days after the preliminary decision, it turned out that Hör den Kinder had been published in English as early as 1997. The title was then disqualified. Sürpriz took over for Corinna May.
Performance of the German contribution in the final
At the Eurovision Song Contest 1999 in Jerusalem, Sürpriz took third place. This was the best German ranking between 1994 and 2010.
