Life

Von der Heide was born the son of a German and a Swiss woman. At 16, he went as au pair in the French-speaking Switzerland , where he took singing lessons with the opera singer Ginette Girardier and discovered his talent for songs . After returning to German-speaking Switzerland, he trained as a nurse in Winterthur . Shortly afterwards he accompanied Vera Kaa as a babysitter for her son on her tour . In 1990 he took part in the Swiss show scene's young talent competition, but couldn't prevail. Five years later he won the Swiss KleinKunstPreis , and in 1996 he starred in the play Lina Böglis Reise (directed by Christoph Marthaler ).

In the same year he released his first album entitled Michael von der Heide, which sold over 15,000 times. He was one of the few German-speaking Swiss artists who managed to jump over the “ Röstigraben ”. The newspaper Le nouveau quotidien from western Switzerland had the headline “une nouvelle étoile est née” (a new star is born).

In 1998 he released his second album, 30 ° - authors such as Martin Suter , Milena Moser and Corin Curschellas were involved in the lyrics . The first single, Jeudi amour , became a big hit and received the “Silver Rabbit” award . The album received music reviews and sold over 24,000 copies.

The song was written by the Swiss film director Micha Lewinsky and composed by Thomas Fessler . Von der Heide initiated the live project “Divamix” with Maja Brunner and Christina Jaccard.

In 2000 he received the German Cabaret Prize . He released his third album, Tourist, which was produced by Züri-West musicians Gert Stäuble and Tom Etter, and began working with Annette Humpe , with whom he wrote two songs. The front man of Züri West, Kuno Lauener , adapted the killer ballad Where the Wild Roses Grow to Swiss German and sang it in a duet with him. The single was named "Cover Version of the Year" by DRS3 . The Tourist album reached number 5 on the Swiss charts and sold over 24,000 copies.

In 2001 he spent in Paris and worked with Doriand, Olivier Libaux (Nouvelle Vague / Carla Bruni ). On the album L'heröine au bain he sang in a duet with Helena Noguerra . For Hommage à Piaf he stood on stage with Ute Lemper , Angélique Kidjo , Catherine Ringer and Regine, among others , to dedicate an evening to Piaf . In 2005 he published 2pièces . The double album was a collection of previous successes and equipped with new titles such as In den Bergen , written and produced by Annette Humpe. A new version of his song Success was created in collaboration with rapper Baze .

With the song Il pleut de l'or he entered the second semifinals, but received the lowest number of points (2 points) and thus failed to make it into the final. The single reached number 69 on the Swiss charts. Appearances in Germany, Portugal, Norway, Romania and Latvia followed. As a self-confessed homosexual, von der Heide successfully defended himself against the degrading reports in the newspaper Blick about the Eurovision defeat.
