Anita Traversi

Anita Traversi (born July 25, 1937 in Giubiasco / Ticino ( Switzerland ); † September 25, 1991 in Bellinzona / Ticino) was a well-known Swiss pop singer in Italy and German-speaking countries in the 1960s.

Biography and artistic work

Anita Traversi was born into a musical family. The father who encouraged his daughter to sing was a drummer in an orchestra. At the age of 18 she sang for the radio orchestra of Italian-speaking Switzerland. The young artist took part in programs that were popular at the time, such as Music Without Borders and Musique aux Champs Elysées . The record industry soon became aware of Anita Traversi. In 1959 she received her first contract in Italy.

A year later she recorded the song Piccola with Adriano Celentano , which rose to number 9 in the Italian charts. The two artists recorded other hits, including Ritorna lo Shimmy, Coccolona (Mama's Baby) and Gilliy .

On March 29, 1960, Anita Traversi took part in the Eurovision Song Contest . With the song Cielo e terra she finished 8th. Then she sang in two other Swiss preliminary rounds for the Grand Prix Eurovision, but did not get any placement. In the meantime, Ariola signed the artist and produced the single You white dove / A wreath of red roses with her in 1962 , which did not go beyond a respectable success. Appearances on Swiss television soon followed, including in "Show-Boat", a musical cruise on Swiss waters.

On June 15, 1963, Anita Traversi took part in the German Schlager Festival in Baden-Baden. There she reached second place with her song Ob in Bombay, ob in Rio . The winner was Gitte with I want a cowboy as a man . With Ob in Bombay, ob in Rio , she was not granted the great success that Margot Eskens did , who covered the song .

On March 21, 1964, the artist participated again in the Grand Prix Eurovision in Copenhagen. With I miei pensieri (Eng. "My thoughts") she only reached 13th place. In 1967 and 1976 she took part in the Swiss preliminary decisions for the Grand Prix Eurovision, but did not achieve very good placements.

In 1964 she covered the song As Tears Go By , written by Mick Jagger , Keith Richards and Andrew Oldham for Marianne Faithfull , under the German title: It's so nice to be in love (back: September-Moon ). The 1965 sung by its title Mallorca based on Paradise Of Love by Bernat Pomar .

After the singer was no longer produced by Ariola due to low sales, Anita Traversi switched to the Heco label in 1970 . But there was no great success there either. In 1972 Anita Traversi became a mother and withdrew from show business.
