The Heco company was founded in 1949 by Gerhard Richard Hennel and his wife Susanne as Heco Hennel & Co. KG in Schmitten in the Hochtaunus district as a company for the production of loudspeakers for cinemas and restaurants.

From 1960, Heco supplied chassis for Braun , Dual and Telefunken . With the models B200 and B300 , the first hi-fi loudspeakers came onto the market under their own name in 1964 . In 1969 the competitor FEHO and its production facilities in Remscheid were taken over and a legally independent plant was set up in Berlin .

After the death of senior boss Gerhard Hennel in 1972, the naming rights and the production sites in Schmitten and Remscheid were sold to the British Rank Organization by his widow Susanne . The range has been expanded to include receivers and record players . The Berlin plant initially remained independent with its Visonik brands , producing for CEC , Dahl and the company of their son Hans-Günter Hennel Summit , until it was taken over by the Bruns group in 1979 .

In 1996 the American Recoton Group took over the trademark rights. In 2003 Audiovox acquired the insolvent Recoton. A Rewe store was then built on the former company premises in Schmitten .

Today Heco is a brand of Magnat Audio-Produkte GmbH based in Pulheim .
