Rykka ( Christina Maria Rieder ; born March 13, 1986 in Vancouver ) is a Swiss - Canadian singer . She represented Switzerland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm , but was eliminated in the ESC semi-finals.

Life

Rykka was born in Vancouver , British Columbia . At the age of 15 she started playing the guitar and had her first small appearances. After studying singing at Vancouver Community College, she moved to Toronto , where she recorded the album Straight Line under the name Christina Maria. 2010 has also been published in Switzerland, and Rykka occurred repeatedly in Switzerland or Germany , so even when Sat.1 - breakfast television . At the release of the Kodiak album, which appeared in 2013 in her native Canada, she used the stage name Rykka for the first time. In the same year she won the Peak Performance Project Contest in Canada. In 2014 she was part of the Squamish Valley Music Festival.

On February 13, 2016 she won the Swiss preliminary decision for the ESC 2016, The Big Decision Show , in front of five competitors and entered the second semifinals on May 12, 2016 in Sweden with her winning title The Last of Our Kind , but landed on the 18th and thus last place. Of all 42 participants in the competition, she was only 41 with 24 points.
