Mélanie René (born September 1, 1990 in Geneva ) is a Swiss singer . She represented her country at the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest .

Life

Mélanie René was born in Geneva to Mauritian parents. She first appeared at family celebrations and festivities when she was seven years old. In 1995 the family moved to the French department of Haute-Savoie . In 2009 she represented Switzerland at the Gregoriu International Festival in the Romanian city ​​of Brăila with the self-composed title “Il chante avec les Anges” (English: He sings with the angels), a tribute to her grandfather, and won the competition. In 2010 she attended the English Guildford the Academy of Contemporary Music and the Institute of Modern Music in Brighton , which she graduated with a bachelor's degree in music performance.

On January 31, 2015, she won the Swiss preliminary round against five competitors. The big decision-making show for the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 in Vienna with the self-written song Time To Shine (German: " Time to Shine "). She was the first representative of the French-speaking broadcaster RTS at the competition since 1996 and the first from Geneva at the Song Contest since 1992.

After her appearance in the second semifinals of the ESC, she was last, did not make it into the top ten places and therefore did not qualify for the final.
