Christa Williams (born February 5, 1926 in Königsberg , East Prussia; † July 28 or 29, 2012 in Munich ) actually Christa Bojarzin (often incorrectly given Paul, Gracher or Braun / Brown as a family name) was in the late 1950s and early 1960s Years a successful pop singer.
Biography and artistic career
She spent her childhood in Königsberg / East Prussia. The turmoil of the war brought the family to Munich in 1942. According to other sources, the family moved to Gelsenkirchen-Erle in 1927 and there is evidence that they lived there until 1971. Her professional goal was initially opera soubrette . She studied at the Munich Conservatory and later at the Academy of Music in Munich , vocals and harp , though now their love was jazz. Her great vocal role model was Ella Fitzgerald . Christa Williams auditioned for Bayerischer Rundfunk and immediately got a record deal with Decca Records . Her first two singles, Oh, These Men (1957) and Blacky Serenade (1957) were not very successful. In 1958 she had her first hit with Jo Roland and the song Himmelblaue Serenade (back: Oh, that would be nice ). Together with Gitta Lind , she had a great (probably her greatest) success in 1959 with My Happiness (“I always want to be true to you”).
In 1959 Christa Williams represented Switzerland in the Eurovision Song Contest (until 1966: Grand Prix Eurovision de la Chanson Européenne ) with the song Irgendwoher and came fourth. It has been forgotten that Christa Williams, Gitta Lind and Peter Frankenfeld won the hit 1959 No Car! had sung. Other hits unknown by Christa Williams are: Sombrero / That comes from it (Ariola), Uncle Tom / Alabama (Decca) and Chou-Chou-Chou / Arizona Lola (Decca). The artist, who switched to the Ariola label in 1962, remained successful in show business until the early 1960s .
Christa Williams also appeared in several films, including Nachts im Grünen Kakadu (1957), Every day is no Sunday (1959) and Pension Schöller (1960). In the latter film, she sang the song Don't say yes . Her film partners included Karin Baal , Marika Rökk , Ann Smyrner , Theo Lingen and Walter Giller .
In 1962 the artist married the pianist Albrecht Huwig, whom she knew from her student days. In 1968 Christa Williams withdrew from show business and founded a music school with her husband in Munich.
Christa Williams died in 2012 at the age of 86. She was buried in the cemetery of the parish church of St. Martin in the Munich district of Untermenzing (grave no. C3).
