Gitta Lind (born April 17, 1925 as Rita Gracher in Trier , † November 9, 1974 in Tutzing ) was a German pop singer who was particularly successful in the 1950s.
Life
Rita Gracher first studied ballet at the city theater in Trier. At the age of 17, she decided to become a singer and had her voice trained in coloratura soprano with Maria Ivogün, among others . In February 1944 she got her first engagement as a singer with the Reichsender Luxemburg . "Rita Gracher" became "Gitta Lind". She put her stage name together from the names of her two idols Gitta Alpár , a Hungarian singer and actress, and Jenny Lind , a Swedish singer.
After the war ended, Lind became a radio singer with the newly founded NWDR in Hamburg. At the request of Erwin Lehn from SDR , she moved to Stuttgart to carry out radio productions with him. In 1948 Gitta Lind got her first record deal with Telefunken here . Her first hit, Flowers for the Lady , was composed by Heinz Gietz, who was still unknown at the time, and the text was written by Joachim Fuchsberger .
After the death of her first husband, she went to Munich in 1951 to work for the Bavarian Radio Orchestra , where she met the radio broadcaster Joachim Fuchsberger , whom she married that same year. This marriage was divorced in 1954 after two and a half years. The artist was married four times in total, most recently to the American educator Stanley Brown , father of her daughter, the American actress Carolin Brown .
Gitta Lind also played in several (music) films, including Scandal in the Girls' Boarding School , which was made in 1952/53 under the direction of Erich Kobler , and Schlagerparade . In addition, she took part in some operetta recordings, such as at WDR under Franz Marszalek in Im Weisse Rössl , Viktoria und ihr Husar , The sweet cavalier and Black Forest girl , mask in blue , My sister and I and on wedding night in Paradise at the side of Johannes Heesters .
In addition to her recordings, Gitta Lind toured with the then stars Vico Torriani and René Carol and appeared on Peter Frankenfeld's show . Her greatest success was with the title White Elder . This song earned her a gold record for 500,000 copies sold by her music label. The song was also recorded by other artists and is now one of the evergreens of German pop hits. Lind recorded duets with Vico Torriani and Hans Clarin . The duet with Christa Williams and the song My Happiness ( I always want to be true to you ) was particularly successful . Trying to work internationally under the stage name Issy Pat with titles like: Adi-Adios Amigo , Oh, Jack or Who kisses me? to become known failed.
Lind took in 1958 with the title Something soft music , 1960 , entitled On the street of dreams and 1964 , entitled A Chanson at night (then on the German preliminary decision for Grand Prix euro vision called) Euro Vision Song Contest in part.
Between 1956 and 1957 she also recorded some hits in the GDR.
In 1972, with start-up capital of the equivalent of 50,000 euros, Gitta Lind - who at that time operated quick cleaning and later acted as director - and Fred Bertelmann founded a show school together in Munich , the first in Germany. Here, where show greats like Gitta Lind's ex-husband Joachim Fuchsberger and Hans-Joachim Kulenkampff taught, young talents were prepared for their careers.
Gitta Lind appeared on television for the last time in the music show Der Wind told me a song with Peter Frankenfeld, which was broadcast by ZDF in 1973 . She died in November 1974 of cancer and was buried in the grave of her parents in the main cemetery of her hometown Trier.
