Hochstaplerin der Liebe is an Austrian melodrama from 1954 by Hans H. König with Hilde Krahl in the title role. The story is based on a "factual report" published in the magazine Constanze .

action

The impostor of love is an unspecified “Madame” who deliberately ensnares older, sedate men with love and seduces them discreetly in order to get their belongings. Already three dignitaries of the society - Dr. Peter Krüger, Prof. Angelot and Adrian van Zanten - who all have a good reputation, have already fallen victim to "Madame". The unscrupulous lady always proceeds according to the same method: First they get married, then the lady disappears with a considerable fortune from the husband or the gift jewelry first from his house and then from the life of the astonished new husband.

The next victim has already been peeked out, this time the charming Brit Ernest Harrington got caught in the spider's web. But for the first time, "Madame" love intervenes and she begins to rethink her previous behavior. The lovers spend a good time together, but "Madame" also realizes that Ernest could never forgive her dark past. The police in the form of a certain Kriminalrat Dr. Maurer is already on her trail. In order to save a life in jail and Ernest the humiliation of being caught by an impostor of love, “Madame” finally sees only one way out: she takes her own life.

Reviews

Der Spiegel wrote: “As is often the case in such cinema cases, a sincere feeling breaks out of the impostor and turns the mediocre crime story into a highly moral element. As the main character, Hilde Krahl can play splendidly between lovely pretense and brutal energy. "

In the lexicon of the international film it says: "A melodrama staged with insecure style on the border to colportage, which at best becomes bearable through Hilde Krahl's dramatic intensity."
