action

Hamburg, late 1950s. The equally young and capricious publisher's wife Carola Hauff lives in luxury; The money earned by her significantly older, graying husband Bernhard Hauff does not seem to matter to her. At some point, however, things get too colorful for the publisher's husband, and he reads the riot act to his lavish better half about her lifestyle. She reacts like a naughty girl and leaves the villa and the Hanseatic city angrily. Now left on her own, Carola, who is wildly determined to divorce, has to look for a livelihood, because the Hamburg money faucet has dried up for the time being. In luxurious Locarno, she meets the eloquent American writer Tex Richards, who hires her as his chauffeur. Soon the air on Lake Maggiore begins to shimmer violently between the two. Tex suspects, however, that there is still a second man in Carola's life, and since he has to be curious as a writer, he likes to get involved in Carola's game, he suspects that he may draw inspiration for a new novel from it could.

Meanwhile, at home in the lonely villa, Bernhard wondered if it was really a smart idea to let his lavish but attractive wife just go out into the big wide world. He follows her without further ado and rents in the same luxury hotel as Rex and Carola, allegedly only to negotiate with Tex about the publication of his latest book. To Bernhard's displeasure, Carola gives the impression that she is quite happy at the side of Tex, who is in love with her, and not exactly willing to return to home. Hauff therefore resorts to the oldest trick in the world: He grabs his sensual secretary Bibi Buchner, a blonde “bombshell” type, and tries to make his still-wife Carola jealous. Now both couples play their little games until Carola and Bernhard finally realize that they still love each other and actually belong together. Meanwhile, Tex Richards found a young lady in Miss Buchner who was only too happy to serve.
