Rolf Wanka

Rolf Wanka (born February 14, 1901 in Vienna , † November 30, 1982 in Munich ) was an Austrian actor .

Life

Wanka studied economics, philosophy and medicine at the Technical University in Prague and later at the universities of Innsbruck and Vienna. He completed his studies in 1928 with the Dr. rer. pole. from. He then ran a machine factory.

In 1931 he was anonymous in the classic film M and then decided to become an actor. After teaching in Vienna with Aurel Novotny from 1933 to 1934, Wanka appeared in numerous Austrian, German and Czech films from 1934 onwards. In 1935 he was partner of Marta Eggerth in The whole world revolves around love .

Wanka mostly embodied the elegant gentleman and outwardly impeccable gentleman. The multilingual cosmopolitan showed a preference for international film and received the Grand Prix du cinéma français in 1939 for his role as captain of Schlieden in the French production The Great Decision .

After the outbreak of World War II, he initially accepted an engagement at the Wiener Kammerspiele and was artistic director of the Wiener Stadttheater from 1940 to 1944 , while limiting his film work.

After the war he first appeared primarily at the Raimund Theater and the Theater in der Josefstadt , from 1950 he was back in front of the camera. As a distinguished elderly gentleman, he was often used, including several times in Spanish productions. Wanka, who last lived in Munich, made guest appearances as a character actor on German theaters and worked for Bayerischer Rundfunk.

Wanka was married to Ilse Vogl for the first time. He was married to the actress Friedl Czepa for the second time . His son Rudolf Wanka (* 1954) (ORF spokesman) emerged from a liaison with Helene Amon, whom he adopted at the age of 4. In 1954 he met his third wife, Brigitta Dahlem, Lili Wanka. From this marriage in 1961 the daughter Irina Wanka emerged.
