action

Andreas Pucher works as a hunter in the Swiss mountains. Among the young women in the village, he is considered a womanizer. Shortly after his relationship with the host's daughter Christa, he began a relationship with Vroni, the daughter of the mountain farmer. The respective fathers don't think much of Andreas. One day the Italian Manuela Grassi arrives in the village because she has inherited an old fiefdom. Andreas, who has long wanted to see the sea, wants to go to Italy with her. He is persistent, flirts aggressively with Manuela to the great disappointment of Vroni and even goes into her guest room at night, whereupon they both spend the night together. Christa would also like to accompany Manuela to Italy, because she wants to become a singer against her father's wishes and is talented. Manuela invites her to visit her in Italy; she starts her return journey secretly accompanied by Andreas.

Arriving in Italy, Andreas realizes that Manuela owns numerous bars and nightclubs in the country. Her vacation is over now and she devotes more time to her work than to him. Her relative informality has given way to a strictness that she, as the boss, has to show towards her employees. Andreas is regarded by her colleagues as exotic and, on the one hand, ridiculed in his hunting costume, but on the other hand, is also seen as attractive by the women. Long-term friends of Manuela finally show themselves irritated by their choice. Manuela, however, makes it unmistakably clear that she will drop any man as soon as he bores her.

Since Andreas lives in Manuela's villa and has nothing to do, he is bored. She lets him buy new suits, which, however, cost a lot more than Andreas thinks and which she secretly pays for herself. One day Christa appears at Manuela's. She took her non-binding invitation seriously and is now just as desired by the rich men of the place as Andreas was previously by the women. Andreas realizes the moral danger Christa is in and prevents her from going on a ship alone with the rich Anulfi. Christa, in turn, opens his eyes after a short time: Manuela's friends call him a gigolo who can be endured, so, although he believed, he didn't even pay for his suits himself. Andreas is outraged and now wants to work himself. Manuela hires him as a waiter, but he turns out to be too clumsy. He made the decision to go back to Switzerland and take Christa, whom he still loves, with him, but she decided to pursue a singing career in Italy. She is now following Anulfi on his ship, too, because she believes that a celebration is taking place there. Anulfi stuns her and drives her to Palermo . Andreas notices her absence and goes after the ship with Manuela. He succeeds in knocking Anulfi and the other crew members out and rescuing the stunned Christa. During the maneuver, Manuela is shot and seriously injured by Anulfi's men. First Andreas is arrested on land, but everything is cleared up and the real criminals are put behind bars. Christa and Andreas, however, return to their village.

Production, publication

Goodbye by the blue sea is based on an idea by Margarete Reinhardt , which Richard Billinger had processed into a film novella. The shooting took place on location in Italy. The film structures come from Werner Achmann . The film had its premiere on June 12, 1962 in the Luxor in Karlsruhe . In Austria it was published in 1962 under the title Manuela und der Förster . It was also published in 1964 in Finland under the title Lähde kanssani Italiaan and in the United States under the title Affair at Ischia .

Eva Astor sings the song Casanova Bye Bye in the film, which is her premiere . Toni Sailer and Hannelore Cremer sing as in love and crazy as you are in a duet, while Hannelore Cremer performs solo with you can lie so wonderfully . The singer, who later became known under the stage name Jonny Hill , appears in a supporting role in the film under his maiden name Ferry Gillming. He plays the general store dealer Herbert, who meets Vroni after her separation from Andreas.

criticism

The film service called goodbye at the blue sea a "colorful routine piece in which nothing wants to go together."

On the green side is the heather - the German film 1930 to 1980 was of the opinion, "In the 1950s, the blue sea symbolized the Germans' wanderlust for southern shores". 'Goodbye by the blue sea' is set in Italy, but is "a sham package as a tourism film". The 'blue sea' is here “a promise that turns out to be an illusion”. Despite the “pop music and tourist landscape recordings”, the film is “closer to the Heimatfilm”. The film was "a hodgepodge of different influences" and "obviously not a success in this country". From today's point of view, the film is fascinating “in the reflection of a changing socialization”.

Sky wrote: "Lovely romance in which the scenery is also to fall in love with."
