Bob Franco

Bob Franco , actually Klaus Honsel , also Bobby Franco , (born March 30, 1937 in Bielefeld , † October 30, 2016 in Munich ) was a German actor , musical artist and pop singer .

Life

Bob Franco sang in the Bielefeld Children's Choir as a student from 1945 . He completed his training as a graphic designer , but continued to sing in the church choir and in the extra choir of the Bielefeld City Theater . He also received private acting lessons in Bielefeld and Bochum .

He took part as a pop singer under the name Bobby Franco in various singing competitions, including in 1958 in the program Toi, toi, toi by Peter Frankenfeld . From 1958 Franco recorded numerous hits , often cover versions of American titles. He was with the record companies Decca-Schallplatten (1958), Telefunken (1959-1962) and Philips (1963) under contract. In 1959 he had great success with the hit Mandolinen und Mondschein . In 1961 he was the first German-speaking interpreter of the song Only the Lonely (Know the Way I Feel) by Roy Orbison with the title Noch are you lonely . His other titles included: Bella Marie ( Billy, Be Sure ) with Hugo Strasser and orchestra, Cimarron ( Roll On ) with Willy Berking and orchestra (1959), You must go all ways (1959), With red wine (1959 ) and today I want to kiss you (1961). In 1962 he recorded the titles Schöne Caroline and (Listen to my song) Violetta at Telefunken with Gert Wilden and his orchestra . In 1963, the titles Sun and Wind and Coco followed at Philips . In the same year he led the NDR TV production Strandgeflüster, presented his version of the song Maybe Love is nothing but Illusion ( Perfidia ) with the Starlets Choir and sang the song The night is full of tenderness ( My Foolish ) together with Anita Lindblom Heart ).

In February 1961 he took part in the German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest in the Kurtheater in Bad Homburg with the song Slow Waltz .

From 1962 Franco appeared under the name of Bob Franco as a musical actor and theater actor. At the Deutsches Theater in Munich he played and sang Freddy Eynsford-Hill in the musical My Fair Lady at the side of Sonja Ziemann as Eliza from September 1962 . In later years he took on the role of trash driver Alfred P. Doolittle in this musical. At the City Theater Zurich , he joined in 1963 in the German premiere of the musical Carnival! by Bob Merrill (music and lyrics) and Michael Stewart (libretto). In 1968/1969 he was Marika Rökk's partner in performances of the musical Hello, Dolly! . He also played Gaston in the musical Gigi at the side of Johannes Heesters , including in 1976 at the Berlin Theater des Westens and 1978 at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich . On tour he also appeared in the musical Irma la Douce and in the musical Prairie-Saloon by Lotar Olias .

He also played regularly Boulevard Theater on the main boulevard theaters in Bonn , Cologne , Berlin ( Comedy on the Kurfürstendamm with Harald Juhnke and Chariklia Baxevanos , Hamburg and Munich. For two years he was an ensemble member at the Düsseldorf Kom (m ödchen) . At the Comedy Dusseldorf he played in the tabloid play (K) A marriage made to measure by Curth Flatow , in the comedy Gesegnetes Alter (again at the side of Johannes Heesters) and in the Schwank Pension Schöller . He also frequently participated in touring productions of tabloids. In 1995 he was with one Germany tour in the comedy laurels for Herr Schütz ; his partners were Barbara Wussow and Albert Fortell.In 1999 he also played the journalist in the comedy Ein gesegnetes Alter with Johannes Heesters in the Kleine Komödie am Max II .

Franco was also a regular guest ensemble of the comedy in the Bayerischer Hof . There he appeared in 2006 and 2010 as Norbert in the comedy Die Kaktusblüte . In January 2010 he was there in the role of Bishop of Lax in the comedy Run Not Always Away from Philip King (1904–1979). His partners included Chariklia Baxevanos and Dieter Henkel . Franco was on tour with this production in 2009/2010; Christof Arnold played the male lead for the first time.

Occasionally Franco also took on classic theater roles. He starred in The Servant of Two Masters, directed by Boleslaw Barlog . At the Ettlingen Castle Festival he appeared as Rülp in the Shakespeare comedy What you want on.

In 1962 he was seen in a film role in the musical comedy Goodbye by the Blue Sea . In 1981 he worked on the ARD television show One will win as an actor.
