Directed by Joseph Hardy, the choreography was done by Onna White; Alfred Drake played the main role.

The German-language premiere in a translation by Robert Gilbert took place on October 24, 1974 in the Theater an der Wien . In the mid-1970s , Johannes Heesters celebrated great success on German-speaking stages in the role of Honoré Lachaille. The play was first performed in London's West End on September 19, 1985 at the Lyric Theater.

action

The action takes place in Paris at the turn of the century (around 1900): Honoré Lachaille tells the audience the story of “little girls”. His nephew Gaston is a frequent guest at Inez and her granddaughter Gigi. Gaston sees in Gigi, who is raised to be a good socialite by Inez and her sister Alicia, a small child who should not be taken seriously. After ending his last affair due to a lack of loyalty, he invites Gigi and Inez to go on a beach holiday, during which he takes a liking to Gigi. He negotiates a contract with Inez that will make Gigi his courtesan, but without her knowledge. Gigi is offended, but then he recognizes her love for her and asks her "in all honor" for her hand.
