Gigi (1951)

Gigi is a tabloid comedy that premiered on Broadway on November 24, 1951 .

The piece is based on the novel Gigi by the French author Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette , which was adapted for the stage by Anita Loos . This tells the story of a young girl who gets to know love.

The main and title role was played by a young, unknown actress named Audrey Hepburn . The play received critical acclaim and was also financially successful. In 1952 Audrey Hepburn won the Theater World Award for it .

The play ran for six months and resulted in Audrey Hepburn's screen debut in A Heart and a Crown , for which she won an Academy Award .

The play was directed by Raymond Rouleau and Gilbert Miller produced it.

Leslie Caron took the lead role in the London performance .
