Chariklia Baxevanos

Chariklia Baxevanos (born March 15, 1936 in Zurich ) is a stage and film actress as well as a voice actress . Her family is from Greece . It is also known as Baxi within the industry .

Life and work

Since her father, the Greek opera tenor Peter Baxevanos, worked mainly as a singer at the Vienna Volksoper and the State Opera, Chariklia Baxevanos attended a monastery school in Vienna (Sacré Cœur). Helene Thimig , daughter of the famous Hugo Thimig and widow of Max Reinhardt , convinced the parents of their daughter's talent and invited her to study acting at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna .

When she was 16, she made her film debut in a small role in the film We'll Rock the Child. In the years that followed, she often played popular music and holiday films in the 1950s, such as Musikparade with Georg Thomalla and Peter Alexander (1956) or Ein Stück vom Himmel (1957) with Toni Sailer . She played the leading role alongside Joachim Fuchsberger in Eva kisses only directors from 1957. Her last appearance on screen so far was in the Edgar Wallace strip from 1964 The Monster of London City alongside Hansjörg Felmy and Marianne Koch .

After that she played mainly on stage, especially in the Theater in der Josefstadt in Vienna, at the Schauspielhaus Zurich , at the Münchner Kammerspiele and at the Komödie am Kurfürstendamm in Berlin, where she still delighted the audience in 2003. In the following years she was mostly on tour, including 2006 with Peer Schmidt in Süsser die Glocken.

Directed by Jürgen Wölffer, she took part in the world premiere of the play Spätlese by Folke Braband on October 23, 2011 on the stage of the Theater am Kurfürstendamm in Berlin. In total, she embodied over 100 leading theater roles, including Bernadette in Lied der Bernadette, Eliza in Pygmalion , Anne in Anne Frank, Hedwig in Henrik Ibsen's Die Wildente and in numerous comedies by Molière , Goldoni and Shakespeare .

She was also able to delight viewers in many television productions. Chariklia Baxevanos had a great success with the television series Wilhelmina (1966/67), in which she played the title role. Furthermore followed z. B. 1983 in the 8th episode of the dream ship Kenya at the side of Pierre Brice and Beatrice Richter and in 1993 in the 20th episode South Africa together with Gerd Baltus and Andrea L'Arronge . At the side of Klaus Schwarzkopf , she embodied his wife in 1986 in The Candidate , directed by Thomas Engel . Smaller roles followed u. a. in Trouble in the Penthouse , directed by Franz Josef Gottlieb .

As a voice actress, she lent her voice to Shirley MacLaine (e.g. in Frankie and his cronies and Eine zuviel im Harem ), Madeline Kahn (Höhenkoller), Mireille Darc ( The Blonde from Beijing ) and Mary Tyler Moore ( A normal family ).

Private

Chariklia Baxevanos was married twice. In 1960 she married her fellow actor Horst Frank . He is the father of their daughter Désirée. The divorce followed a year later. Then she met Harald Juhnke and was in a relationship with him for ten years until 1971, before she separated from him because of his alcoholic illness.

In the second marriage, the actress was married to the director Christian Wölffer since the mid-1970s . She and her ex-husband have been on stage together on various occasions and also shot several TV games, most recently the comedy Onions and Butter Cookies (1990).
