Lifeguard Asparagus , also lifeguard in the women's pool , is an Austrian comedy film by Alfred Lehner from 1956.

action

Engelbert Spargel lives in a house in Vienna with his wife Agnes, their adult daughter Inge, the baby Karlie and Agnes' older brother Ypsilon . Asparagus earns his living as a lifeguard, but is offensive in his work due to his know-it-all and the occasional stray into the ladies' changing room. At home there is always trouble because daughter Inge is a milliner , but wants to be a singer. In addition, Father Asparagus doesn't want to know that she is with his boss's son, Willi. Asparagus has long had problems with his brother Loisl, who lives in America. He had once unhooked his girlfriend, with whom Asparagus was about to get married. Since then, there has been no radio silence between the brothers and Loisl's name and America are taboo in the asparagus house.

Asparagus doesn't know that Loisl has been giving the family money for some time, which Agnes and Inge manage. Otherwise the family would not be able to make ends meet. One day, Agnes learns from the notary that Loisl has died and left half of his $ 50,000 fortune to the asparagus. The other half goes to his daughter Margot, who wants to come to Vienna in a while. Since the family knows that asparagus would never accept money from his brother, they decide to let him earn the money himself or else “slip it” on him. They receive support from the family friend, Hans Binder, and from Willi.

Willi can persuade his father to transport asparagus. He is now the cashier of the bath, which doubles his salary. Asparagus is 300,000 crowns richer through a pool prize, and suddenly becomes the owner of a villa through construction lots. Margot appears in Vienna and gets to know her relatives. Since it is certain that asparagus Margot would reject, Hans introduces her to asparagus as his friend from America. Margot ensnares asparagus, who suddenly discovers the gentleman in himself, changes his clothes, shaves off his beard and spends a lot of time with her and outside the house, which he sells to Agnes as working hours. However, his new zest for life does not lead him to accept Willi as his son-in-law. One day, asparagus receives an invitation from Margot to a concert, with Margot pretending to be a singer herself. Asparagus is astonished to find his wife in his box; Inge sings again on stage. Asparagus leaves the concert early. In addition to his family, director Müller, his son Willi and Hans appear in his villa shortly afterwards. Agnes tells Asparagus that he is going to divorce him because of his extramarital antics. She also announces Inge and Willi's engagement. Margot appears and tells Asparagus that she is his niece. She also announces that she wants to get engaged to Hans. Asparagus complains, but then learns that his brother Loisl has died. Only now does he realize how wrong his behavior was. He agrees to the engagements and asks Agnes to return to her. Agnes forgives him.
