Albert Rueprecht (born July 24, 1929 in Vienna ) is an Austrian actor .

Life

Education and theater

Rueprecht took acting lessons from 1949 to 1951 with Zdenko Kestranek, Helmuth Krauss and Eduard Wolters, teachers of the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna. He had his first engagements as an actor at the Theater der Courage and the Theater am Parkring. In 1953 he played Ferdinand in Kabale und Liebe at the Vienna Volkstheater . After appearing at the Theater in der Josefstadt , he came to the Burgtheater in 1954 . There he played Romeo in Romeo and Juliet , Don Juan in Dame Kobold by Calderón de la Barca and Gottfried in Das Käthchen von Heilbronn .

In 1955 he was finally on stage at the historical reopening performance at the Burgtheater in King Ottokar's Glück und Ende . He stayed at the Burgtheater for almost ten years. From 1958 to 2004 he was a member of the ensemble at the Theater in der Josefstadt. There he played a total of over 80 roles.

Movie

From 1953 onwards, Rueprecht often played an important role in the homeland films of the 1950s. Mostly he embodied the good-natured young man, which made him very popular. In Sissi - Fateful Years of an Empress , he took on the role of Archduke Ferdinand Max . Altogether Albert Rueprecht shot over 50 feature films: There where the Alps glow , The spendthrift , The light of love with Paula Wessely , The girl in the Bohemian Forest , In the Prater the trees are blooming again with Johanna Matz . After the end of the Heimatfilm wave, Rueprecht only got small roles, including several times in international productions. He took part in television series and intensified his theater work, especially at the Theater in der Josefstadt.

His repertoire ranged from the young officer to the dexterous beau, from the peasant lover to the "elegant man of the world" to the emperor.

He made artistic “detours” into the operetta with Zarah Leander , Marika Röck and Renate Holm as partners. In 2008 he played Emperor Franz Josef in the operetta Im Weißen Rößl at the Mörbischer Seefestspiele .

Many guest performances, tours and literary lecture tours led him a. a. to Germany, the USA and China.

Private

Albert Rueprecht was u. a. married to the actresses Ellen Umlauf and Ann Millar (Elisabeth Rueprecht, née Millar; died on June 27, 2010 in Vienna-Hietzing). Alexander Rueprecht is his son from his marriage to Ellen Umlauf.

Albert Rueprecht was also awarded the Cross of Honor for Science and Art, 1st Class.
