action

The mood on the Danube ship Johann Strauss is bad: Milena, the fiancee of Captain Paul Heider, is angry because Paul did not come back on board from shore leave, but enjoyed the night ashore. For years Paul has started an affair ashore at every opportunity, and Milena suffers from her fiancé's behavior. However, she does not want to marry him, as the couple are not allowed to work together on a ship. She fears that Paul's behavior alone will only get worse. Ship's cook Nowak also has problems, as he is in love with Milena, who rejects him. However, he himself rejects cook Pepperl, who would love to marry him. Secretly, however, he still loves a woman whom he once left on land and, when he reflected, could not find again.

On shore leave, ship lieutenant Peter Rajko meets the young Elisabeth Bergmann, whose clothes were stolen while bathing. He helps her out with his jacket and soon the clothes are back on. Peter is delighted when he hears that Elisabeth is a journalist and that the next day she will take the Johann Strauss to Linz for a report . In the editorial office, Elisabeth is also assigned photo reporter Emil Bayerl, who will drive part of the route ashore on his blue lightning moped .

In addition to Elisabeth and Emil, Gelina, with whom Paul once had an affair, comes on board to Milena's displeasure. She keeps besieging Paul and wants to flirt with him, but over time she finds a replacement in fellow traveler Haselbrunner. Elisabeth and Peter soon get together, but Paul also tries to flirt with Elisabeth. To his astonishment, Elisabeth repeatedly eludes him and soon she reveals to him that she is his daughter. He once had an affair with her mother Franziska. Soon Milena, who is not surprised, and Peter - Paul's son, also know about it. Elisabeth is devastated when her lover turns out to be her brother. In the end, however, it turns out that not Paul, but Koch Nowak is Elisabeth's father. He had once pretended to be Paul so that he could end up with women. Elisabeth's mother Franziska was the woman he could not find again at the time, but who could never be forgotten either. He is pleased to hear that Franziska wants to pick up Elisabeth in Linz.

When Emil Bayerl disembarked for his land report, he had lifted a crying boy aboard the Johann Strauss , who absolutely wanted to get on the ship. His mother Klara came to the jetty too late - her son had run away again because he really wanted to be a cabin boy. His late father was the captain of an Elbe ship. Emil and Klara are now pursuing the ship on land, but for various reasons miss the ship's arrival in Dürnstein , Aggstein , Aggsbach , Melk and Marbach , Maria Taferl . Both get closer on the journey and finally receive son Bumsi in Linz. Nowak meets Franziska in Linz and after such a long time they both embrace again. In the end there is a four-fold wedding: Paul Heider finally marries Milena, Peter Rajko and Elisabeth will be a couple, Franziska and Nowak will marry and Emil and Klara will also form the bond for life.
