Aggsbach is a market town with 641 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Krems-Land district in Lower Austria .

Geographical location

Aggsbach is located on the left bank of the Danube in the Wachau in Lower Austria and belongs to the Krems an der Donau district .

Community structure

The municipality includes the following four localities (population in brackets as of January 1, 2020):

The community consists of the cadastral communities Aggsbach , Groisbach , Köfering and Willendorf .

Incorporations

On January 1, 1970, the communities Schönbühel an der Donau and Aggsbach Dorf were merged to form the community Schönbühel-Aggsbach. On January 1, 1972, the municipalities of Aggsbach Markt and Willendorf in the Wachau were combined to form the municipality of Aggsbach.

history

In an interglacial period 25,000 years ago, the world-famous “ Venus von Willendorf ” was created - a fully preserved statue of fertility.

Aggsbach was mentioned in a document as "Accusabah" as early as 1148 .

Population development

From 1991 to 2001 the birth balance was negative, so that despite slight immigration, the number of inhabitants decreased. Since 2001, both the birth balance and the migration balance have been negative.

In 2010 there were 41 agricultural and forestry operations in Aggsbach, eight of which were full-time businesses. In the secondary economic sector there were six establishments employing fifteen people, ten of them manufacturing goods. In the tertiary economic sector, 23 companies employed 54 people, the majority in social and public services (as of 2011).
