history

The first traces of settlement in the community go back to the Neolithic Age . During the migration , the Lombards in particular settled in what is now the municipality. The Falkenberg lordship built a castle in the Middle Ages, which can now be visited as the Falkenberg ruins . In 1628, Straß was raised to a market town . In 1638 the newly built early baroque parish church in Straß in the Straßertal valley was consecrated.

In 1970 the previously independent municipalities of Straß, Elsarn, Wiedendorf and Diendorf am Walde merged to form the large municipality of Straß im Straßertale.

Population development

The community of Straß has an unusual population development. Here the population decreased atypically in the 1860s and 70s, but it is currently growing. This growth is due to a strongly positive balance of migration , while the birth balance is slightly negative.

Religions

In 2001, almost all of the streets (89.8%) were of Roman Catholic faith. The second largest religious community was Islam (2.5%), followed by Protestant Christians (0.8%). 6.2% of the population were without religious beliefs.
