Fels am Wagram is a market town with 2365 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Tulln district in Lower Austria .
geography
The market town is located north of the Danube, on the striking ridge of the Wagram and is best known for its viticulture .
Fels am Wagram is 40 km west of Vienna and 15 km east of Krems an der Donau on the northern edge of the Tullnerfeld directly above the Wagram . The place is about 5 km away from the Danube floodplains and the mouth of the Kamp .
The area of the market town covers 29.5 square kilometers, 6.9 percent of which is forested.
On the loess plateau between Fels and Gösing there are seven cellar lanes called Dorner, Steinagrund, Mitterweg, Zwerigraben, Hammergraben , Scheibe and Floss where typical regional wine cellars can be found.

history
The municipality of Fels was raised to market municipality on March 27, 1927 .
During the Second World War , the Fels am Wagram concentration camp was located in Fels , a satellite camp for Hungarian Jews of the Mauthausen concentration camp , as well as a labor camp and a field airfield of the German air force .
Religions
There are Roman Catholic parishes in Fels am Wagram and Gösing am Wagram. The chapel in Fels, which is documented as early as the 14th century, was dedicated to the Pulgarn nunnery and hospital near Steyregg in 1349 . In 1498 the chapel came to the diocese of Passau and was looked after by the mother parish in Kirchberg am Wagram .
Population development
According to the results of the 2001 census , there were 1,966 inhabitants. In 1991 the market town had 1,848 inhabitants, in 1981 1,850 and in 1971 1,925 inhabitants.
