Großriedenthal is a municipality with 916 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Weinviertel in the Tulln district in Lower Austria .
geography
Großriedenthal is located north of the Danube between the southern edge of the Weinviertel and the striking ridge of the Wagram, around eight kilometers by road north of Kirchberg am Wagram . The area of the municipality covers 18.83 square kilometers. 3.42 percent of the area is forested.

The community consists of the cadastral communities Großriedenthal, Neudegg and Ottenthal.

history
The place name appeared for the first time in 1110 in a document in Passau . Riedenthal once meant a cleared area in the valley, later the valley of the good Weinriede.
The Riedenthal estate was owned by the noble family of the same name, whose castle was probably located on the local mountain in the north of the community. In 1285 a wooden castle was first mentioned on the local mountain. There are still earth stalls on this today .
Population development
According to the results of the 2001 census , there were 984 inhabitants. In 1991 the municipality had 998 inhabitants, in 1981 998 and in 1971 1,043 inhabitants.

- Museum of Simple Things : The “Museum of Simple Things” is housed in a Renaissance knight's estate, which was converted into a large farm in the 17th century. Household and work equipment from everyday rural life in earlier times as well as clothing and furniture are exhibited. The museum participates annually in the “Lössfrühling am Wagram” and the “Long Night of Museums”.
- Hausberg: The Hausberg is a truncated cone that was piled up between 1000 and 1300 as the substructure of a fortified house, which served as a refuge and protection against enemy attacks. The supple loess was well suited for the huge earthworks, for mountains, ditches and walls . This house had a bridge gate at the guard house. Behind it there was a wide formation room for the soldiers and a solid wooden house with a tower for the lookout and defense. From the summit you can look out over the neighboring villages and with good visibility the view extends over the Danube to the Dürnrohr power station .

economy
In 2001 there were 23 non-agricultural workplaces, agricultural and forestry businesses according to the 1999 survey 148. The number of people in work at the place of residence was 473 according to the 2001 census. In 2001 the activity rate was 49.18 percent.
