Museum of Simple Things

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Museum of Simple Things is a private museum in Großriedenthal in the Tulln district in Lower Austria . It is located in a Renaissance-era building and opened in 2001.

The building

The Renaissance building that houses the Museum of Simple Things was once a knight's estate that was converted into a large farm in the 17th century. After the Second World War , the property was barely modernized and managed until 1966. After that it stood empty for a long time, which is why much of the old building fabric has been preserved.

From 1995 the Viennese wood technician Franz Perlaki, who had acquired the property, began with the careful restoration, whereby in some areas the rural remodeling was reduced to the original condition of the manor. In the course of the building restoration, many interesting details from the early days of the house were uncovered, such as a Secco painting from the Renaissance period, sgraffiti and a seed pit from pre-industrial times.

The museum

When Franz Perlaki began restoring the house in 1995, he spotted a large number of objects from the everyday rural life of yesteryear scattered across the property. These form the main inventory of the Museum of Simple Things, which was founded in 2001 . The exhibits are primarily household and work equipment, but also other items of everyday use such as clothing, prayer books and furniture. The museum is housed in a wing of the former large farm. In addition, visitors to the museum can visit the former press house and the wine cellar.
