Babel 17 is a French band that was formed in 1988 and operates in the field of cold wave . The band name is inspired by Samuel R. Delany's science fiction novel Babel-17 .

history

Founding members include Jean Franceschi, Vincent Porte and Vincent Perret. Her first label was Lively Art, a sub-label of New Rose Records . The band's first CD was released in 1990 under the title Celeano Fragments , the second one year later was called Shades . Individual pieces were found on almost a dozen compilations . In 1992 the band expanded with guitarist and bassist Franck Meissonier. A third album was recorded, which should have been called Shamanic Tales . However, prior to release, Lively Art filed for bankruptcy. The band broke up a short time later.

There was a reunification of Babel 17 in 2003 with different line-ups - the only permanent member from the founding trio is Jean Franceschi. Another album was released in 2009 with Franck Meissonier as producer : The Ice Wall . The album, recorded from 2006 to 2008, was released on the French label Infrastition. Infrastition had also reissued the first two Babel 17 albums in the meantime. In 2013, Infrastition released Leviathan , another collaboration between Franceschi and Meissonier, this time with bassist Vincent K, who previously played with the bands The Disease and No Tears.
