New Rose Records

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

New Rose Records was a French record company that emerged in 1980 from the music shop of the same name, which was operated by the French Patrick Mathé and Louis Thevenon in Paris . The company, which was set up as an independent label , gained international popularity over the 1980s and signed not only local artists but also numerous foreign bands. The musical spectrum ranged from conventional rock to punk , post-punk , gothic and cold wave to electronic music .

In 1992 New Rose Records was bought by the French media and department store group Fédération Nationale d'Achat des Cadres ( FNAC for short ) and ceased operations in the spring of 1994. Patrick Mathé then founded the record label Last Call Records , on which a few of the former artists based on New Rose Records found a new home.

Several sub-labels (including Lively Art , Division Nada and Fan Club Records ) were integrated into New Rose Records . The label also acted as a distributor and worked with companies such as 4AD , Rough Trade and L'Invitation au Suicide .
