About this picture

The Tulln district is an administrative district of the Province of Lower Austria .

history

Originally the judicial districts of Tulln and Klosterneuburg (within the boundaries of that time) belonged to the Hernals district , from 1890 to the Währing district for a short time , the former Kirchberg am Wagram district to the Krems-Land district and the former Atzenbrugg judicial district to the Sankt Pölten-Land district . After the Währing district was closed due to the incorporation of the city into Vienna, the Tulln district was founded in 1892 (RGBl. No. 179/1891).

Klosterneuburg, as well as the surrounding, at that time independent communities Kierling , Maria Gugging and Höflein an der Donau , which today belong to Klosterneuburg, were separated in 1938 and incorporated into Vienna, came back to Lower Austria in 1954, but to the newly established Vienna-Umgebung district .

On September 24, 2015, the Lower Austrian Landtag decided that the Vienna-Umgebung district would be dissolved at the end of 2016. The state government then reallocated the municipalities to the adjacent districts: The municipality of Klosterneuburg became part of the Tulln district.

geography

In terms of landscape , the part north of the Danube belongs to the Weinviertel , the Tullnerfeld to the Mostviertel and the city of Klosterneuburg to the industrial quarter . For the spatial planning of the state, the district is part of the main region “ Niederösterreich Mitte ”, the borders of which lie across the traditional quarter division.

traffic

The main traffic arteries cut the district in an east-west direction. The Stockerau expressway S 5 runs north of the Danube and is part of the large-scale motorway ring around Vienna . At the westernmost end of the district, the Krems expressway S 33 branches off from the S 5 in the direction of St. Pölten, which connects the region with Austria's main traffic axis, the western A 1 motorway, and thus closes the motorway ring. The national road 1 is another important compound represented by the Tullnerfeld runs.

From Vienna to Tulln, the Franz-Josefs-Bahn line lies south of the Danube, then crosses it and continues on the north bank to Gmünd or Krems an der Donau. The Tullnerfelderbahn branches off at Tulln and runs on the south bank of the Danube to St. Pölten. At the same time, this line was connected to the new course of the Western Railway . As a commuter station, Tullnerfeld station represents the hub.

The Danube can only be crossed at two points in the district, both in Tulln; the newer Rosenbrücke was constructed to relieve the old Tulln Danube bridge , over which the railway also runs.
