Höflein an der Donau is a cadastral municipality of Klosterneuburg in Lower Austria ( Tulln district ) located on the Danube , immediately north of Vienna .

Höflein on the Danube (top center) is located on the northern border of the Vienna Woods and at the northeastern end of the Alps (record sheet of the 3rd country record, around 1872)

Höflein on the Danube borders in the west on Greifenstein (cadastral municipality of Sankt Andrä-Wierter ), in the east on Kritzendorf , in the south on Hadersfeld . In the north, Höflein extends over the Danube and borders on Stockerau and Spillern .

The village has a length of approx. 2 kilometers and is approx. 300 meters wide, lies between a mountain slope and the southern bank of the Danube. Between the river kilometers 1945.7 and 1947.9 this flows through the Höfleiner area. The river is the only waterway in Europe that is kilometers upstream, i.e. H. Höflein is 1946 kilometers from the mouth of the Black Sea.

history

The establishment of the place took place in the year 996. In this year a place "Houlin" is mentioned for the first time in a document. Until 1938 Höflein was an independent municipality. With the creation of “ Greater Vienna ” in March 1938, Höflein and the city of Klosterneuburg became the 26th district of Vienna. After the dissolution of “Greater Vienna” in 1954, the former municipalities of Klosterneuburg, Kritzendorf , Höflein, Kierling , Maria Gugging , Weidling and Weidlingbach became today's municipality of Klosterneuburg.

Mayor is Manfred Hoffelner. Other politicians from Höflein who are active in the Klosterneuburg municipal council are Vice Mayor Richard Raz (ÖVP), GR Martin Zach (The Greens) and GR Christoph Raz (ÖVP) and City Councilor Karl Schmid (SPÖ).

Personalities

The former athlete Max Raub , who won two Olympic medals in a two-person kayak, lives in Höflein . Schlager legend Rudi Hofstetter , who was also a Höfleiner, died a few years ago . On September 9, 2011, canoeist Corinna Kuhnle won her second world title at the Canoe World Championships in Bratislava, she also comes from Höflein on the Danube. The winner of the Red Bull Dolomitenmann extreme sports relay from 2014, Stephan Brodicky , also comes from Höflein. Also the two artists, the cabaret artist and actor Gery Seidl and the actor Alexander Hoffelner .
