Rudi Hofstetter

Rudi Hofstetter (born July 9, 1916 in Vienna ; † October 5, 2008 in Höflein an der Donau ) was an Austrian singer and lyricist .

Life

After graduating from high school, Rudi Hofstetter studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna . In 1939 he was drafted into the military and was a standing violinist in the soldiers' orchestra . Hofstetter later came to the Flak in Friedrichshafen , decided against a career as an officer despite his high school diploma and came to France with a division . He played guitar and violin with a quintet for his comrades and made his first vocal interludes at this time.

Hofstetter was a guest singer on French radio in Paris and was taken prisoner by the British in 1944 , where his talent was recognized and he was appointed supervisor and musical director of the BBC radio program for prisoners of war. He lived in London until 1946 , then returned home and worked for RAVAG .

In 1948 the first recordings were made with Jaro Schmied and his artist ensemble. In 1949 he became a singer with the Kleiner Wiener Rundfunkorchester under the direction of Charly Gaudriot .

His first duet partner was Steffi Melz , in 1951 Rudi Hofstetter and Erni Bieler became a hit couple and had a success with “ I would like to hear your heart beating. “This was followed by further recordings with Waltraut Haas , Franz Schier , Gretl Schörg and Leila Negra . In January 1954 they went on a major tour of Germany with the Austroton Schlagerexpress Vienna-Berlin . From 1954 there was a Rudi Hofstetter trio and he became a member of the Optimists and Lehmanns Singing Soloists.

He was buried in the cemetery in Höflein on the Danube.
