Franz Schier

Franz Rudolf Schier (born February 25, 1909 in Vienna ; † January 14, 1954 there ) was an Austrian pop and Wienerlied singer, film actor and tavern innkeeper.

Franz Schier studied singing at the Vienna Music Academy and became a well-known pop singer in the 1920s, performing primarily with Charly Gaudriot and his band as well as in RAVAG broadcasts .

In 1928 he opened his soon popular and prominent wine tavern on Hackhofergasse in Nussdorf , where he also sang Viennese songs for his guests.

In 1932 he emerged victorious from the song and jazz competition. In addition to his radio appearances, he also recorded numerous records and worked in films.

“Schier Franzl”, as he was also called, died of the consequences of an appendectomy in Vienna's Rudolfinerhaus and was buried in the Nussdorf parish cemetery.
