Erich Meder (born July 28, 1897 in Brno , † September 18, 1966 in Vienna ) was an Austrian lyricist for Viennese songs and hits .

Live and act

Its first success dates from the mid-1930s. In 1936 he wrote the Danube Steamship Company Captain , for whom Charles Loubé wrote the music. It became really popular through the collaboration with the composer Hans Lang and the interpretation of some of their songs by Hans Moser on record . With Lang he created some catchy tunes that are still unforgettable today, such as the song Der alten Sünder from the film of the same name, which is sung there by Maria Andergast and Paul Hörbiger , as well as Imagine the lights go out , 1952 the duet Hallo Dienstmann , which was interpreted in the film of the same name by Paul Hörbiger and Hans Moser. In 1940 the two wrote The Old Mr. Chancellery , which had long been popular with Hans Moser's records, when he interpreted it in the 1948 film The Mr. Chancellery . In the same film, Maria Andergast and Hans Lang sing together Du bist die Rose vom Wörthersee . The popularity of the song Liebe kleine Schaffnerin (1942) can be explained specifically in terms of the war situation, as it expressed the changed role of women in a belittling form.

Immediately after the war in 1945 Meder wrote the melancholy Vienna was once a flourishing city , set to music by Fritz Haymerle and Frank Fox . In the next year the content was again more confident in the one set to music by Lang and sung by Hans Moser, When Steffl becomes the way he was again . In addition to those already mentioned, he was also active in the Wienerlied. In 1953 he wrote the Kellergassen-Tanz (In der Kellergass'n) , which was interpreted by Hans Moser. Old Novotny said that and is best known in the interpretation of Heinz Conrads , who has always sang other songs or only later. In addition to Hans Lang, especially Peter Kreuder set some of Meder's songs to music.

His final resting place is in the Simmering fire hall (Section 7 / Ring 3 / Gr.7 / No.111) in Vienna.

Plaque

In September 2017, a memorial plaque was installed by his legal successor Wolfgang Bacher in the house at Lenaugasse 11 in Vienna, where Erich Meder lived until his death in 1966. Waltraut Haas (singer and Meder interpreter) carried out the unveiling.
