Elfie Mayerhofer

Elfie Mayerhofer , also mentioned in some of the film opening credits as Meyerhofer , married Lauterbach , married. Berreßem (born March 15, 1917 in Marburg an der Drau ; † December 28, 1992 in Maria Enzersdorf , Lower Austria ) was an Austrian film actress and opera singer ( soprano ). Because of her voice she was nicknamed "The Vienna Nightingale" by the press and the public.

Life

Elfie Mayerhofer studied music and made her theatrical acting debut at the youth theater in Munich. She was also successful in Zurich and Vienna and engagements at the State Opera in Munich and at various theaters in Berlin in the early 1930s made her interesting for the film business. In 1938 she got the first major role in the film Women for Golden Hill . This was followed again and again by other music films, including such well-known ones as Hotel Sacher (1939), We ask for a dance (1941) and My wife Teresa (1942). At the Berlin Metropol Theater she played the leading female role in Schmidseder's Women in the Metropol .

After the Second World War , she first appeared in concerts and at the opera. In 1946 she sang Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro under Felix Prohaska . But also in the films after 1945 Elfie Mayerhofer continued to enjoy success. In the film Anni (1948) she sang several well-known operetta melodies alongside Siegfried Breuer and Josef Meinrad . Between 1957 and 1960 she also appeared in some of the earliest television productions.

At the age of more than 60, Elfie Mayerhofer went on another overseas trip, where she sang and performed successfully in operas and operettas in the USA, Mexico and Canada in the late 1970s.

Elfie Mayerhofer has received numerous awards in the course of her career, including a. the Golden Decoration of Honor of the State of Vienna and the Johann Strauss Statuette.

She was married to the architect T. Lauterbach until her divorce in 1959 and to the ZDF production manager Josef Berressem from 1976 until her death .

Her honorary grave is located in the Grinzinger Friedhof (group 30, row 3, number 29) in Vienna.
