Maria von Schmedes (born October 6, 1917 in Mödling near Vienna , † February 23, 2003 in Salzburg ) was an Austrian singer and actress .

Life

After studying singing and acting in Vienna, Maria von Schmedes performed in the Berlin Philharmonic in 1939 . She was one of the interpreters of the song "Es geht alles vorüber" (music by Fred Raymond , initially interpreted by the disgraced Lale Andersen ), which is regarded as a "stamina" song . She was particularly successful with Viennese songs and hits in the Viennese dialect, including songs by Alexander Steinbrecher , Ralph Benatzky , Karl Föderl , Ludwig Schmidseder and Hans Weiner-Dillmann . She is named as the author of some of the pieces. The locations given are Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Norway, Salzburg, Vienna and Zurich. From 1942 to 1943 she was with the cabaret comedian of Willi Schaeffer active in Berlin. The record releases cover the period up to the end of the 1950s. From the beginning of the 1960s she no longer appeared in public. From 1963 she lived in Salzburg. She was married to the art historian Hans Sedlmayr and had a daughter. Maria von Schmedes died in 2003 at the age of 85 in a nursing home in Salzburg.
