Knall und Fall als Hochstapler is a German-Austrian comedy ( Slapstick ) directed by Hubert Marischka , which was released in the Federal Republic of Germany on September 19, 1952 and in Austria on November 21, 1952. The German-Austrian comedian duo Knall und Fall, alias Hans Richter and Rudolf Carl , should be based on the great models Dick and Doof respectively. Pat & Patachon are established.
In 1953 there was a sequel with the title " Bang and Fall as Detectives ".

The tramps bang and fall are picnicking in a meadow when suddenly an imposing car stops next to them. A man asks them to get on board, as they are exactly the type that is wanted for a film. The two do not think long and comply with the request. The ride ends in a film studio. There they are maneuvered into an American car that belongs to the film company's main shareholder, millionaire Vandergold. Bang and Fall are supposed to play a millionaire and his chauffeur. There is also a briefcase in the car, embossed with the name “Vandergold,” which contains a million dollars in theater money.
When Bang uses the wrong lever in the car, the car starts moving. An odyssey begins from the film studio through the streets until the car finally breaks through a sanatorium gate and comes to a stop. When the director rushed to see the briefcase with the name “Vandergold” from which several banknotes are pouring out, she sees her chance to save the sanatorium, which is about to go bankrupt, with the help of the two new guests. She assumes that she has the millionaire Vandergold and his chauffeur in front of her. Bang and Fall deny they are millionaires, but are hastily accommodated in a luxurious apartment in the sanatorium. A bank director sells them the worthless sanatorium shares, which skyrocket when it becomes known that millionaire Vandergold has billeted in the sanatorium. Even when the director is cleared up by the unit manager, who was looking for a bang and a fall, after a brief consultation you stick with the story. Nobody wants to risk the sanatorium's shares falling again.
The beautiful beautician Bettina Brandtner is also employed in the sanatorium, and both Bang and Fall fail a little, which puts a strain on their friendship. Fall adopted the young lady as “Vandergold”. When Bettina meets the real Vandergold and his girlfriend Irene Dahlen reacts extremely jealously, the situation worsens. At a summer festival organized by Bang and Fall, the two vagrants are finally exposed and are somehow relieved about it. They finally flee secretly from their own party and also leave Bettina Brandtner behind, because of whom their friendship almost broke up.

The film was shot in Vienna - Sievering in the studio and in Vienna. Arena-Film and Wiener Mundus-Film were the production companies, the cinema distribution was carried out by Herzog-Filmverleih. Franz Schroedter was responsible for the buildings, Herbert Sennewald for the production management. The first performance in Germany on September 19, 1952 was in Düsseldorf .
The name "Vandergold" used in the film is intended to suggest a connection to the name Vanderbilt as a synonym for wealth.
