Walter Tuch (born December 2, 1913 in Aussig , † March 27, 1969 in Hamburg ) was an Austrian cameraman .

He was the son of the art book dealer Karl Tuch and his wife Maria, née Planer, who ran a hat shop. His sister Marianne later became an actress under the name Jane Tilden . After graduating from secondary school, he completed an apprenticeship as a photographer and then did an apprenticeship as a cameraman with his uncle Franz Planer . As a camera assistant or subordinate cameraman, he was involved in some of his films.

During the Second World War he served as a war correspondent and was taken prisoner by the Americans. After the end of the war he got a job as operations manager at the American licensed Photo Plant PX in Munich.

In 1948 he went to Austria and started working again as a cameraman. After a few short documentaries, he started making feature films in 1952. In addition to homeland films , including the unusually successful Der Förster vom Silberwald , Tuch also photographed cheerful comedies and hit films that were characteristic of the German-Austrian film industry of the 50s and 60s. In the 60s he worked increasingly for television and took part in series of the NDR such as Hafenpolizei , Gertrud Stranitzki and Polizeifunk ruft .
