action

Oskar Schnabel, a wholesaler for fruits from the Arab region, one day receives a highly idiosyncratic and, moreover, also richly piquant gift from his oriental trading partner: the good husband and father of a long-grown daughter named Ruthlinde is said to be a dozen well-built and pretty Receive harem ladies . But how can the well-behaved honest man explain this to his lovely wife Susanne? In addition, the girls are accompanied by a kind of chaperon.

Oskar has the brilliant idea: without further ado, he declares the harem dancers to be Turkish cucumbers, whereupon Susanne begins to become suspicious and wants to take a closer look at these “cucumbers”. Now Schnabel absolutely needs the help of his future son-in-law, the dentist Siegfried König, a lovable clumsy man with show talent. Before both men can send the women back to the Orient, Schnabel and König have to survive a few more adventures and the audience has to survive several singing and dancing interludes.

Production notes

The Turkish Cucumber was filmed in late 1961 and premiered on March 22, 1962. The Austrian premiere took place on May 11, 1962.

Reviews

Paimann's film lists summed up: "Fortunately, primitive slapstick offered by certain comedians in situations that have been seen many times with just such antics and 'ideas' under rather loose direction."

"A comedy with lots of hits on the level of a village smear."
