content

The eternal student Peter Ohlsen leads a lotter life and has been on the pocket of his father, the extremely wealthy farm owner Ludwig Ohlsen, for years. He gives Peter, who wants to go on a world tour, a final deadline to come to his senses and decide to work on the farm. Peter doesn't think about listening to his father's admonishing words. While he is celebrating a boozy farewell party, an unknown woman appears at Ludwig Ohlsen's to have an obviously serious conversation with him about Peter.

When Peter comes home from the party the next morning, he finds a three-year-old boy in his bed. This goes by the name of Hänschen and was handed over to the housekeeper with a letter. The letter, which is only signed with an "M", says that Peter is the boy's father and that from now on he will have to look after the child. Peter decides not to start the world tour and instead to go to the Rhine with his son. Margret lives there, whom he takes to be his mother. However, the guess turns out to be wrong and Peter travels back.

On the train, he meets the kindergarten teacher Kathrin Gebhardt, who takes loving care of Hänschen and who Peter quickly hires as a nanny. Once at home, Peter looks like a different person. He throws his drunken friends out of the apartment, begins to work on his thesis and takes loving care of his son. Little does he suspect that Kathrin, a forgotten carnival acquaintance, is the mother of the child and is making common cause with his father.

After Peter has successfully passed his diploma examination, he finds a letter from his father. It is written in it that everything is a mistake and that Hänschen is not his son. But in the end Ludwig Ohlsen clears up his son about the plot. Peter and Kathrin are actually Hänschen's parents and are getting married.
