The film is set in post-war Germany . Contrary to the truth, a young teacher has to state that she is unmarried in order to obtain a teaching permit in the small town where her husband works as a teacher at the local high school. As a result, she gets a job in exactly the same school where her husband works.

The fact that the two are married soon comes to light; the inevitable consequences are rumors and conflicts. The situation is exacerbated when one of the students falls in love with the teacher; even the marriage of the two gets into trouble. The film ends on a happy note , however : the situation can be resolved and the marriage continues.

Production notes

The film was shot from January 11th to the end of February 1949 in the Bavaria Film studio in Geiselgasteig . The exterior shots were taken in Marquartstein . The production headed Walter Bolz . Adolph Schlyssleder and Toni Schelkopf assisted Kurt Hoffmann in directing. Besides Heinz Pauck worked Günter Eich with the script. The camera work was done by Josef Illig , while Karl Reiter was responsible for the still photos. Ludwig Reuber was responsible for the film construction together with Max Seefelder . The lyrics to the song Why did the zebra stripes come from the joint pen of Aldo von Pinelli and Heinz Pauck.

Release dates and different film titles

Secret Rendezvous was premiered on May 20, 1949 in the Palast Theater in Hanover . In West Berlin , the cinema was released on September 20, 1949. In Portugal , the film was shown for the first time on February 24, 1951 under the title Casados ​​às Escondidas .

Reviews

The lexicon of international films sums up that the film is a “harmless-amiable game of confusion” in which the differences between teachers who have become unworldly and their students are merely “carefully” hinted at.
