Geiselgasteig is part of the Grünwald community .

It is located on the high bank of the Isar in the north of the municipality and thus borders directly on the city limits of the state capital Munich to the Harlaching district . The district is bordered by the Isar to the west and by the municipality to the south.

Geiselgasteig has achieved independent fame as "Bavarian Hollywood" through Bavaria Film . Today the Bavaria Filmstadt is one of the most popular excursion destinations in the Munich area and the most famous sight in the district.

Due to its proximity to the film studios, this district also hosts a lot of celebrities and has therefore earned Grünwald the reputation of a noble and villa resort.

Bavaria Film was founded in 1907 by Peter Ostermayr as EmElKa - Münchner Lichtspielkunst AG. The site in Geiselgasteig was acquired in 1919 after the EmElKa initially resided near the Stachus .
