Uschi Glas (2012)

Helga Ursula "Uschi" Glas (born March  2, 1944 in Landau an der Isar ) is a German actress and singer .

Life

Glas grew up in Landau an der Isar as the youngest of four siblings in simple circumstances. Her father Christian worked for the automaker Glas without being related to the company owner. She finished secondary school in Landau in 1960 with secondary school leaving certificate . After working as an accountant in Dingolfing , Glas settled in Munich in 1964 , where she worked as a secretary in a law firm for Rolf Bossi and later in a haulage company. At the same time, she sought contact with the film scene.

Career

actress

At a reception for the premiere of the film Das Liebeskarussell , she made a few critical remarks to the producer Horst Wendlandt . He showed interest in her and gave her her first small film role in 1965 in Der eheimliche Mönch . Since she was convincing, she received acting lessons from Annemarie Hanschke and was soon allowed to take on leading roles, such as in the Karl May film Winnetou and the half-blood Apanatschi . Here, however, it was dubbed by Marion Hartmann .

Glas became generally known in 1968 in her role as Barbara in the movie To the Point, Sweetheart , where she did an - unfinished - striptease at a police station. In the film series Die Lümmel von der Erste Bank , which also started in 1968, she played the sister of the bully Pepe Nietnagel . Glass also played the female lead in other movies, often alongside Roy Black . In 1969 she had her theater premiere in Düsseldorf in the play Our Dearest Friend .

After that, she increasingly appeared in television series such as 1973 in Der Kommissar . Soon she herself was the focus of series such as Police Inspection 1 (from 1977) or Our Most Beautiful Years (from 1983). In 1986 she briefly became the film partner of Christian Quadflieg when she was supposed to take on the leading female role in the series Der Landarzt . Due to her pregnancy, however, she left the production shortly after filming began. From 1989 she was seen in the series Zwei Münchner in Hamburg - again alongside Elmar Wepper . She also wrote the screenplay for the RTL film series Tierärztin Christine , which appeared in 1993 . Other successful series were Anna Maria - A woman goes her way (from 1994) with her as a gravel pit owner and Sylvia - A class for herself (from 1998), where she played a teacher, and Zwei am Großer See (from 2004) as Antonia Berger.

In the most successful films of 2013, 2015 and 2017 Fack ju Göthe , Fack ju Göhte 2 and Fack ju Göthe 3 , Uschi Glas was seen in a supporting role as a burned-out, suicide-prone teacher. With that she appeared in 10 of the 100 most successful German films between 1966 and 2017.

singer

In 1970 Uschi Glas also tried herself as a pop singer; she recorded the record Wenn dein Herz brennt (German version of Love grows (where my Rosemary goes) by Edison Lighthouse) with producer Giorgio Moroder . In 2002 she published the music album Uschi Glas sings the most beautiful Christmas carols and in 2003 released the CD Sonne, Mond und Sterne - Uschi Glas sings the most beautiful German songs .

Author

In 1996, she published a cookbook with recipes for the whole year under the title Healthy, Slim and Beautiful . In 2004 her autobiography With a Smile was published. In 2016 she published the book Herzenssache. Of happiness to be needed after.

Private life

Her life partners were Bobby Arnold from 1966 to the end of 1970, Max Graf Lamberg from 1971 to 1973 and then her future husband Bernd Tewaag , with whom she was married from 1981 to the end of February 2003. This connection resulted in three children: Benjamin Tewaag (* 1976) is a presenter and actor, Alexander Christoph Tewaag (* 1982) is a lawyer. Julia Tewaag (* 1986) appeared as a child in the television series Tierärztin Christine at the side of her mother, but later chose a career outside of show business.

On October 22, 2005, Glas married her new partner, the management consultant Dieter Hermann. She is evangelical .

Litigation

Glas lost a lawsuit when she sued the Berlin police for allegedly using her data to investigate Internet pornography. The officers allegedly used their ID number, which was printed in a magazine, to check the youth protection mechanism of such a site. The lawsuit for 20,000 euros in compensation for pain and suffering was dismissed in June 2005.

In April 2004, Glas hit the headlines because of a cosmetics series it had marketed : During a practical test by Stiftung Warentest , several testers from Uschi Glas Hautnah Face Cream , which was advertised on television by the home shopping channel HSE24 , showed irritation and inflammation of the facial skin. The foundation then rated the cream as “poor” and warned against use. In April 2005, the Berlin Regional Court dismissed an action brought by the manufacturer 4S-Marketing GmbH against the further dissemination of the test results. The Berlin Court of Appeal rejected the manufacturer's appeal due to "lack of prospect of success" in June 2006 and thus finally closed this legal dispute.

Political commitment

Initially, Glas saw itself - according to its own statements - as part of the '68 generation. In the early 1970s she turned politically to Franz Josef Strauss and the CSU . Even today she makes no secret of her conservative outlook.

Glas made a donation of 10,000 DM to Helmut Kohl , who tried to compensate the CDU for the damage caused by the black money affair in 2000 .

social commitment

As the patron of the German Foundation for Patient Protection, Glas supports the seriously ill, those in need of care and the dying.

Like many German celebrities, she campaigned for Debbie Milke, who was sentenced to death in the USA, for almost 20 years . In 1996, death penalty opponents had made Glas aware of the case, she read the files and was then convinced of Milke's innocence. She was in close contact with Milke's late mother, met with Milke's lawyers, and sent a self-produced DVD about the case to friends. At a Munich security conference , she let herself be smuggled in as a dinner table lady by John McCain - in the vain hope of being able to win the Senator from Arizona over to her cause. Milke was released from prison in 2013.

Together with her husband Dieter Hermann, she founded the association brotZeit eV in 2009 , of which she is still a board member. The association organizes daily, free school breakfasts for now more than 10,000 elementary and special school children who come to class without breakfast or lunch. Glas also got involved with the Augsburg charity football team Datschiburger Kickers , which is committed to fundraising for charitable purposes. For her many years of commitment and the founding of brotZeit, she received the “Kind Award” in 2009 together with Dieter Hermann von Kinderlachen .

Furthermore, Uschi Glas has been actively involved in the fight against blood cancer for many years and supports the German bone marrow donor database both financially and with voluntary commitment.
