Klinik unter Palmen is a German doctor television series on ARD that ran from 1996 to 2003 over a total of 8 seasons and 23 episodes in the Philippines (season 1), in Thailand (season 2), in the Dominican Republic (season 3–4), plays in Mexico (seasons 5–6) and in Cuba (seasons 7–8). The stories about the clinic team of Dr. Frank Hofmann ( Klausjürgen Wussow ) achieved an average market share of 17%.
The first broadcast began on February 2, 1996. Each episode lasted about 90 minutes, with three episodes running annually. The series was produced by Karl Spiehs and directed by Otto Retzer . The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation supported the production with a quarter of a million DM and booked this as public relations. The scripts were written by Thomas Nippold and Rolf-René Schneider.

The German doctor Dr. Frank Hofmann sets up clinics in several countries, mostly with development aid, helps to build them up, and supports the doctors there, who often include German colleagues, with difficult decisions and operations. Hofmann first works on Boracay an island in the Philippines , then in Thailand in Phuket and in the Dominican Republic. After looking after the "Clinica Maya" in Tulum , Mexico for a while, he ended up in Cuba , where he met his great love ( Gaby Dohm ) again and finally died. In all of the episodes he saves local patients and tries his hand at local doctors as mental support. As in other hospital series, some personal fates (Hofmann could not save the wife and child of a lawyer, he wants revenge and seeks his life; doctor's son commits malpractice during surgery on his own father etc.) and events relating to patients and clinics ( Plague on the ward; faith healers interfere; amnesias; love, divorces etc.).
