Klaus Pruenster (born May 26, 1957 in Feldkirch , Vorarlberg ) is an Austrian composer and guitarist.

Life

Klaus Pruenster, born in Feldkirch , completed his music studies at the Bregenz Conservatory and the Vorarlberg State Conservatory in Feldkirch. At the beginning of the 1980s he moved from Vorarlberg to Linz / Upper Austria , where he worked as a professor of music at the grammar school. He is considered to be the co-inventor of “computer-acoustic rock music with earthly sounds”, which he is developing further in international music projects on the occasion of the “ Ars Electronica ” electronics festival . So z. E.g. at the world premiere of the computer-acoustic symphony “Erdenklang” with Hubert Bognermayr and the inventor of the synthesizer Bob Moog , as well as at the performance of the “Sermon on the Mount” in Linz Cathedral, as conductor and guitar soloist.

With the release of his first solo LP "Zweisamkeit" Klaus Pruenster achieved his breakthrough as a pop interpreter. The single “Wunderwelt” became one of the biggest hits of the 1980s in Austria. Numerous record productions as interpreter, producer and arranger followed. With the release of “Planet No. 1”, Klaus Pruenster's music became increasingly intellectual; he withdrew more and more from the "mainstream" and dealt more and more with political and social issues in his work. The recordings "Show me the way to the stars", "Land of Dreams", "Heartbeat" and the musical psychogram "Tiefenrausch" followed in the early 1990s.

In addition to numerous concerts, he wrote and produced increasingly music for the film industry in his “Klangwelt” composition office. E.g. B. the soundtrack for 17 episodes of the television series Klinik unter Palmen , "Adventure in South Africa - Christine III" directed by Christian Kohlund , Ein himmlischer Freund , the two-part TV series Rose unter Dornen with Heinz Hoenig in the leading role, etc. In 2006 he wrote for Joseph Vilsmairs Das Weihnachtssekel the film music. Original soundtracks with film music by Klaus Pruenster have also been released on CD.

Since 2001, Klaus Pruenster has been performing live as a guitarist on stage with the Swiss actor Christian Kohlund in the play In Doubt for the Accused , for which he also wrote the music. Since 2010, both artists have been performing together with the (be) sensual program “Christmas blues” in Austria, Germany and Switzerland. The live premiere took place in Chicago in 2013.

For the opening of the International Bruckner Festival in Linz, the year of the Capital of Culture 2009, Klaus Pruenster was commissioned to compose a large orchestral work for the Bruckner Orchestra Linz . The world premiere took place on September 13, 2009 with great success in the Brucknerhaus Linz. In 2010 he made a live comeback as a guitarist and has since played solo concerts in Austria, Germany and Switzerland. In autumn 2011 the CD Famous Guitar , his first album for solo acoustic guitar, was released internationally. From 2014 to 2016 Klaus Pruenster is curator of the guitar festival “Flaming Strings” in the Brucknerhaus in Linz. Pruenster was appointed by the city of Linz to the supervisory board of the operating company of the Linzer Tabakfabrik . So far, records with the music of Klaus Pruenster have been sold over a million times.

For his work, Klaus Pruenster was awarded the Medal of Merit of the State of Upper Austria and the Great Medal of Honor for Services to the Culture of the City of Linz. In February 2015, the Republic of Austria gave him the professional title of "Professor" through Minister of Culture Dr. Josef Ostermayer awarded. After 20 years of abstinence from the pop business, Klaus Pruenster published another pop title in October 2015. The video clip for "The Train", an unconditional statement against intolerance, was premiered in front of 120,000 people on the occasion of the concert "Voices for Refugees" in October 2015 at Vienna's Heldenplatz. The second album for solo guitar was also released in December 2015, entitled "Guitar Experience", which uses guitar synthesizer sounds in addition to the acoustic guitar. In 2017, in collaboration with José Feliciano, the new recording of the 70s classic "Streets of London" was created as a single. The album "Timeless" was also released, on which Klaus Pruenster interprets vocal titles in addition to instrumental compositions for guitar.
