Oliver Tobias (* 6 August 1947 in Zurich , Switzerland , as Oliver Tobias Friday ) is a British-Swiss film and theater actor .

Life

Oliver Tobias was born as the son of actors Maria Becker and Robert Freitag and grew up with his parents in Zurich with two brothers. His brother Benedict Freitag also became an actor. From 1958 Tobias attended a boarding school in London . In 1964 he left school and went on tour with a rock band through Germany and Switzerland. From 1965 to 1968 he attended the East 15 Acting School in Loughton ( Greater London ). He then continued his acting training at the Ecole de Dance in Zurich.

Tobias had his first successes as an actor from 1968 in the musicals Hair and Jesus Christ Superstar in London, Amsterdam and Tel Aviv-Jaffa .

In 1969 he made his film debut alongside Donald Pleasence and Shelley Winters in the British feature film Arthur! Arthur! . In Germany he became known for the title role in the TV series King Arthur (Original: Arthur of the Britons ), which was produced from 1971 to 1972. Since then, Tobias has been engaged for many international film projects, but has also repeatedly taken on theater roles . In 1982 he played the role of the seductive devil in a Faust interpretation in the music video for the single Hymn by the British pop group Ultravox .

Oliver Tobias has two daughters from his first marriage and two sons from his second marriage. He lives in London with his family.
